CM & Deputy CMs meet farmers hit by crop loss, Naveen to visit on Dec 31

Bhubaneswar: Amid reports of at least five farmers dying unnaturally due to crop loss caused by unseasonal rains, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida met farmers affected by crop loss due to untimely rain on Sunday.

The Chief Minister inspected the paddy fields damaged by the rain in Ranapur of Nayagarh, Gosani of Gajapati, and Rangeilunda and Chhatrapur of Ganjam district. The CM, who was accompanied by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, met the affected farmers and ascertained their condition. Majhi is also held discussions with senior district officials during his visit.

Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo visited Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts. He also chaired a comprehensive review meeting addressing the crop loss in Cuttack district due to the recent unseasonal rainfall. Deputy CM Pravati Parida interacted with farmers of Bhadrak and Balasore districts.

Apart from the CM, other Ministers also visited various districts across the state to assess the crop loss caused by unseasonal rain. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra assessed the damage in Kendrapada and Jajpur districts. Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta visited Khurda and inspected the crop losses due to unseasonal rain.

According to the Revenue and Disaster Minister, the government has asked the district collectors concerned to inquire into the allegations and submit a report soon. The Chief Minister has stated that the government is making arrangements so that all farmers, both insured and non-insured, get compensation following crop damage, an official said.

Naveen to visit on Dec 31

Similarly, Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJD president Naveen Patnaik is slated to undertake separate visits to different affected districts on December 31. BJD sources said the former Chief Minister will be visiting Satyabadi in Puri, Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur, Pattamunadai in Kendrapara and Salepur in Cuttack district and meet the farmers whose crops have suffered extensive damage due to unseasonal rain.
