Malkangiri: A consumer disputes redressal forum in Odisha has ordered multinational company Samsung to pay Rs 68,000 to a consumer for selling a damaged TV and compensation for harassment.
As per the case filed at the district consumer disputes redressal forum in Malkangiri, Ram Prasad Patnaik, a lawyer, had purchased a 43 inch TV from a Samsung showroom in March, 2019. As the TV stopped working after 5-6 months, Patnaik took it to the showroom for repair.
As the TV had warranty for 5 years, the dealer repaired it free of cost and returned to Patnaik. But the TV again became defunct after 15 days and the lawyer took it to the showroom.
Several days after giving the damaged TV, the dealer neither repaired it nor returned it to Patnaik. Feeling harassed, he filed a case at the consumer court.
Hearing both the petitioner and the company’s lawyer, president of the consumer forum PK Panda and member Salam Bano directed Samsung to pay Rs 68,700 to Patnaik. The amount includes Rs 50,700 as cost of the TV, Rs 15,000 as compensation and Rs 3,000 as penalty to Patnaik by March 30.
