CRUT forms committee to probe into Mo Bus fire in Cuttack

Cuttack: After a ‘Mo Bus’ caught fire in Cuttack city, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) initiated a probe into the incident and its top officials visited the site.

Shortly after the mishap on Saturday night, Managing Director of CRUT Dr N Thirumala Naik along with General Manager (Operations & Maintenance) Sanjay Biswal, and other senior officials visited the site of the tragedy to take stock of the situation as a probe was launched into the mishap.

The CRUT, which operated Mo Bus, said in a press note that a committee headed by Deputy Commissioner Transport has been constituted to enquire into the incident.

The probe team includes a Motor Vehicle Inspector, CRUT’s Manager of Operations and Depot, and the bus operator, stated the press release. A technical team from OEM is also deployed for further investigation.

While the exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation, the preliminary indications suggest a possible electrical fault.

It may be noted that the Mo Bus bearing the registration number, OD-33-U-7111 suddenly caught fire around 9.30 pm and 10 pm on Saturday night near the busy Khapuria-Madhupatna Chhak in the city. Fortunately, the bus was reportedly empty and no one was stated to have been injured in the mishap.

Sources said the fire first emanated from the engine of the bus before it was completely engulfed by flames. Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and extinguished the fire in the empty bus.

On being informed, the Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and started to douse the fire. As the entire bus was on fire, they struggled to bring it under control.

Hundreds of vehicles on both sides of the road were stranded due to the incident which took place at a rush hour.
