Cyclone ‘Dana’ to take shape in 48 hours as low pressure forms over Bay

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its morning bulletin on Monday has confirmed the formation of a low-pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea today morning. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over east-central Bay of Bengal.

The system may move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning. The met department has forecast light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in Odisha on October 23. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may also occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on October 24-25.

IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, had earlier said that Odisha is likely to bear the maximum brunt of the cyclonic storm, which is likely to be name ‘Dana’, a name given by Qatar.
