Cyclonic circulation to trigger rain for 4 days, city waterlogged after heavy shower

Bhubaneswar: Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha from June 26 to 29 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

On Wednesday afternoon, heavy rainfall in Bhubaneswar has caused waterlogging in several areas and disrupted normal activities. Three buses got stuck on the waterlogged stretch near Iskcon temple.

According to the weather agency, while thunderstorm activity with gusty wind may also continue till June 28, there is a forecast for heavy to very heavy rain in some districts on June 27-28. Heavy rain may lash one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Bargarh on June 26.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kalahandi districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning for six districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 6 pm. Moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense spell of rain may occur in some parts of Kandhamal, Kahahandi, Nayagarh, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack city) and Nupada districts.
