Dharmendra Pradhan calls for inclusion of local dialects in school curriculum

Bhubaneswar: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday called for inclusion of local dialects in the school curriculum for cognitive development of the students.

Speaking at the inauguration of Sikhya Bhawan, hostels and a guest house on the premises of the Eastern Regional Languages Centre (ERLC) in Bhubaneswar, Pradhan said, “The use of local dialects can help the students understand various issues, make critical analysis and find solutions on their own. Thus, they can contribute to the process of nation-building.”

The minister further said the Central government and the states’ School and Mass Education department should start working in this regard.

Speaking on the Eastern Regional Languages Centre, which has been set up by the Centre with a cost of Rs 16 crore in Laxmisagar in the city, he said the government was keen on its further development. He proposed that the institution should have a big auditorium to accommodate 500 people.

The auditorium can be used for holding meetings, research activities and seminars on languages, he said adding that the Centre will provide necessary funds for the purpose.

The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi signed an MoU for research on languages on the occasion.
