Doctor killed, car roof ripped off in crash near Bomikhal overbridge

Bhubaneswar: Odisha capital saw a heartrending accident late last night as a speeding car rammed Bomikhal flyover and a nearby electric pole close to Santoshi Maa temple here, leading to the death of a young doctor working in a private hospital here.

The deceased doctor has been identified as Amit Bisoyi, a native of Ganjam district. According to sources, the accident took place around midnight when the doctor, en route to Laxmisagar from Rasulgarh, lost control over the vehicle due to bad road conditions. The medicine specialist was rescued by locals in a critical condition and taken to Capital Hospital in an ambulance but succumbed to his injuries.

“We were informed about the accident just 10 minutes after he had spoken to his brother over phone. A tyre of the car fell into a ditch on the road, leading to the accident. His engagement was to be held on December 10 and his marriage was fixed for February 28,” Prashant Sahu, a relative, told the media.

His body was handed over to the family after postmortem, the sources added. People gathered around the mangled remains of the vehicle with its roof ripped off in the accident, this morning. Locals said that the car first hit the flyover and then the electric pole.

This came a week after a bike-borne youth died while another sustained critical injuries after falling off Bomikhal overbridge.
