‘Fake call centre’ busted in Bhubaneswar, special team to visit Kolkata to intensify probe

Bhubaneswar: A special team of Commissionerate Police will visit Kolkata soon to intensify the probe into the busting of a fake call center in Sundarapada area in Bhubaneswar.

As per sources, Commissionerate Police has already sought a five-day remand of the six accused arrested for their involvement. After getting permission for it, the special police team will visit Kolkata to intensify the investigation into the incident, and know the backgrounds of the accused and their mode of operation. Commissionerate Police has already started it’s preparations for the visit.

As per the preliminary investigation, the accused were committing cyber fraud across and outside the country and making quick money. They have also allegedly duped some people in America by promising to provide them with software products and upload anti-virus.

As per police sources, the accused are highly educated. Their bank accounts are currently being checked to find out how much money they have duped from people. A special team has been formed to investigate the incident.

Notably, the six accused from West Bengal were running the fake call center at a flat on the second floor of Kanchana Apartment in Sundarpada area. It is expected that they have duped more than Rs 2 crore from the people.

“We have been investigating to whom and how much money they have duped. We have requested the court to take the accused in five-day remand to question them. We have also sent their electronic devices to forensic laboratory to get important information. A special team of police will visit Kolkata soon to trace the identities, backgrounds and other detailed information about the accused,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra.
