Focus lights restored at Jagannath temple in Puri after criticism

Puri: Following widespread resentment over removal of focus lights at Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri, those have been restored.

The focus lights installed during the Heritage Corridor project inauguration to light up the temple and make it visible from a long distance. It not only facilitated beautification of the temple but also made it the centre of attraction in the Pilgrim Town.

According to sources, an event management company had installed the focus lights at the time with a huge cost. But the lights were allegedly brought down by the company two days ago following BJD’s defeat in the Assembly elections.

As it sparked off resentment from the devotees, servitors of the temple and political parties, Puri district collector ordered an investigation to ascertain who had ordered the removal of the focus lights. Singhadwar Police in Puri has detained four persons in this regard. Those persons have connection with the event management company.

However, the lights were restored on Saturday after Chief Secretary PK Jena and chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Arabinda Padhee visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
