Bhubaneswar: The night temperature is likely to fall by 3-5 degree Celsius during the next 3 days in Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday. There is no rain forecast for Odisha from December 10 and dry weather will prevail thereafter.
The weather agency has also forecast light rain at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Sambalpur districts due to moisture incursion under the influence of a low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the next 24 hours. It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards thereafter and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri-Lanka–Tamil Nadu coasts around December 11.
Meanwhile, Delhi and its surrounding areas may witness cold wave-like conditions with the IMD predicting a drop of six degrees Celsius in temperature this week. Cold wave conditions are also likely in isolated pockets of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh till December 13.
Last night, Shimla and the adjoining tourist resort towns of Kufri and Fagu in Himachal Pradesh received the season’s first snow. Heavy, unprecedented snowfall has also been ongoing in Uttarakhand and Jammu.
