Man jumps to death in front of train, video blaming wife of torture goes viral

Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly jumped to his death in front of a moving train under Khurda industrial police limits in Odisha after recording a video, accusing his wife of mental harassment. The deceased has been identified as Ramchandra Badajena of Kumbharbasta.

According to preliminary reports from the Government Railway Police (GRP), he jumped in front of a moving train near the Nijigarh-Tapang railway track. His body was recovered early Saturday and sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause and time of death.

In the short emotionally-charged video, Ramchandra, believed to be in his late thirties, blamed his wife for pushing him to take the extreme step. “I am Ramchandra Badajena. I live in Kumbharbasta. I am committing suicide today because of my wife.” It was uploaded to social media moments before he took his life.

“I can no longer bear this pain. They (in-laws) did not keep their promise and later asked my wife to create disturbances at my home. My wife also threatened divorce and harassed my family. My family respected my wishes and supported the marriage. But everything went against us,” he added.

They were married for around two years and were parents to a one-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, police have registered a case under Sections 108, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s parent, accusing Rupali and her family of abetment to suicide, and recorded his mother’s statement.

In her complaint, Ramchandra’s mother alleged that her daughter-in-law often stayed at her paternal house and mistreated him for not visiting her there regularly. She further claimed that their family had borne the wedding expenses and also lent Rs 20 lakh to the bride’s family.

The father of the deceased demanded a thorough investigation and justice for his son.
