MBBS student loses Rs.6 lakh to cyber criminal in Rourkela

Rourkela: A MBBS student allegedly fell prey to cyber criminals and lost Rs 6 lakh in the steel city of Odisha, Rourkela.

While at home on March 27, the 22-year-old received a message on her Whatsapp asking her to join a group on a messaging app. After joining the group, which already had 4,000 people, she was forwarded to a smaller group where a person asked her to join another social media site.

A woman then asked her to make a small investment of Rs 1,000, promising handsome returns. A total of Rs 1,300 was credited to her account. The girl was asked to invest more, which again earned her a good profit. The fraudsters then messaged her to invest Rs 25,000 but she received no returns this time. When asked for the reason, she was instructed to invest more for a huge profit. After having invested Rs 6 lakh, she demanded returns along with the interest but got no response.
