Modi 3.0 with 72 ministers takes oath, 9 new faces in Cabinet

New Delhi: BJP leader Narendra Modi took the oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term on Sunday. Modi took oath along with 72 ministers of the new coalition government. Thirty of them are Cabinet Ministers, 5 independent charge, and 36 Ministers of State. The portfolios will be announced later.

This is historic as no Prime Minister other than Jawaharlal Nehru, the first PM of Independent India, has returned for a third term as the PM.

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to PM Modi. Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah took oath after him. Nitin Gadkari was the fourth leader to be administered the oath of office by the President. JP Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, and Manohar Lal Khattar followed in taking oath.

Among foreign leaders present were Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth, Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay and Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
