Balasore: Simulia police have detained a person on charges of strangulating his mother to death under the influence of alcohol at Talapada village in Soro block in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday night. He has been identified as Arun Mohanty.
According to his younger brother Ajay, Arun got into an altercation with his family members over food served for dinner. He was drunk and got agitated, unprovoked, since there was no fish or mutton for dinner. “My brother was in an inebriated condition. He caught hold of our mother’s throat and strangulated her. She was declared dead by the doctors at a nearby hospital,” he added.
The deceased, a widow, used to live with her sons Arun and Ajay, the latter’s wife Kavita and grandchildren at Talapada. Neighbours confirmed Arun’s addiction to alcohol and creating ruckus over minor issues on multiple occasions.
