Odia actor Chakradhar Jena passes away

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia actor Chakradhar Jena passed away while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on Monday night.

According to sources, he was being treated for lung-related ailment. He was later shifted to the ICU, where he breathed his last during treatment.

An alumnus of National Schools of Drama, Chakradhar began his career in Odisha film industry in 1993 with ‘Pathara Khasuchi Bada Deulu’. Jena is also known for his roles in ‘Arjun’, ‘Prem weds Priya’, ‘Rana Bhumi’, ‘Mo Mana Khali Tumari Pain’, ‘Tu Mo Akhira Tara’, ‘To Bina Mo Kahani Addha’, ‘To Pain Nebi Mu Sahe Janama’, ‘Sanju Aau Sanjana’ and ‘Om Namaha Shivaya’.

He has also acted in Hollywood movies – ‘City of Joy’ in which played the role of a bootlegger and shared screen with Om Puri and Shabana Azmi and ‘Electric Moon’ and Prashanta Nanda directed Hindi serial ‘Antardha’. He also starred in 1993 Hindi film, ‘Sardar’, which was an account of Vallbhbhai Patel’s political life while India was taking first steps as an independent country.

A pall of gloom descended on the Ollywood fraternity following his demise.
