Odisha confirms 3 sunstroke deaths & 786 heat-related illness cases
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday confirmed three sunstroke deaths and 786 heat-related illness in the state this season.
“The three deaths due to heat stroke took place in Dhenkanal, Balasore and Mayurbhanj,” said Director of Public Health Dr Bijay Kumar Mohapatra.
He added that probe is on to ascertain the actual cause of 17 more deaths due to suspected sunstroke reported from different places in the state.
The first sunstroke death in the state was reported from Maheshpur in Balasore district where a 62-year-old Laxmikanta Sahu died on April 15. The second victim was Nimai Charan Rout (50) of Dhenkanal. He died on April 29.
