Bhubaneswar: As Odisha has been grappling with dense fog for the last few days, the state government has issued an advisory for the people.
The Transport department, in a press release on Thursday, issued the advisory to address the challenges faced by the vehicle riders due to reduced visibility and potential risk of accidents on the roads.
It has asked the people to take the following safety measures while travelling on road in foggy condition:
Reduce vehicle speed and allow more time for reaching the destination.
Maintain adequate distance between vehicles to help brake in time.
Keep the head lights on, at all times while driving in fog. Use fog lamp to enhance visibility in foggy conditions.
Keep an eye on road markings and be mindful of the turnings and other road signages.
Drive with utmost concentration and avoid distractions like mobile phones, earphones, loud music etc.
Stating that daily fog report will be shared on social media handles of State Transport Authority (STA), the department asked the people to check those and schedule their travel accordingly.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning of dense fog for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir, and Nabarangpur till 8.30 am on Friday.
Shallow to moderate fog may also occur at a few places in South Interior Odisha and at one or two places in remaining districts of the state.
Shallow to moderate fog will continue at one or two places across the state during the next 24 hours, the IMD added.
