Odisha Govt To Further Promote Organic Farming Across The State, Says Agriculture Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is very keen towards promoting organic farming across the state and support farmers with knowledge and infrastructure to achieve high yield with it, Deputy CM and Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Minister KV Singh Deo said in the state Assembly on Wednesday.

Replying to a question on organic farming by BJD MLA Dibya Shankar Mishra, Singh Deo said, “At present organic farming is being done in Odisha in 10 tribal districts including Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Mayurbhanj.”

While productivity might increase with fertilizers, but it degrades the soil, he said.

“However, organic fertilizers improve the fertility of the soil. So, Odisha government is going to promote organic farming and ensure farmers’ reaches appropriate markets. The linkage will help farmers to shift to organic farming,” Singh Deo added.

The Agriculture Minister further said that if any farmer wants to get their soil tested they can do it through soil. Besides, extension officers would assist them to take up organic farming.
