Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Mission Purvodaya is catalysing new opportunities. With vast natural resources, talented human capital and strategic location, eastern India and Odisha will be the growth driver of ‘Viksit Bharat’, said Union Minister for Education & Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan here on Saturday.
Inaugurating a two-day conference on ‘Purvodaya Perspectives: Reflections on Regional Connectivity’ jointly organised by The Energy Forum (TEF) in association with Ministry of External Affairs and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Pradhan said the Mission Purvodaya is a journey of resurgence and rediscovery. “A Viksit Bharat cannot be imagined without the balanced development of our north eastern region. Guided by the Prime Minister’s emphasis on Purvodaya, the conference is a part of our collective efforts towards holistic development and prosperity of eastern India with Odisha as the epicenter. Odisha has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of Purvodaya Mission,” he said.
He also thanked TEF, CII and the Ministry for driving the mission forward and embarking on a journey towards a shared, inclusive, sustainable, prosperous and more connected future.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs V. Muraleedharan highlighted importance of connectivity in forming relationships & role in enhanced trade and commerce. Purvodaya Mission offers a model to bring about balanced growth and development of Eastern India and its excellent relationship including with ASEAN.
The conference, which is in sync with PM Modi’s policy of ‘Act East’, which aims to strengthen India’s ties with eastern and ASEAN countries, is going to be a significant milestone in the development of this region, he said.
Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India, President of CII R. Dinesh and Director General of CII Chandrajit Banerjee were present.
Subjects like Connectivity in India’s Foreign Policy, Centrality of connectivity in India’s foreign policy- Issues and determinants and Country Perspectives on Regional Connectivity were discussed where High Commissioners of Bangladesh, Singapore, Nepal, USA, Sri Lanka and Malaysia; ambassadors of Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos shared their thoughts. A dance drama on maritime heritages was also performed.
On Sunday, issues like Transport & Energy Corridors- Commerce and Connectivity, Addressing Non- Traditional Security Threats & Capacity Building, Cultural connectivity & Maritime Heritage and Soft Drivers of Connectivity: Technology, Digital Innovation, Finance & Skilling will be debated in different sessions. Governor of Odisha Raghubar Das will grace the valedictory ceremony in the presence of Minister of Industry & Commerce of Tripura Smt. Santana Chakma, Minister of Transport of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister of Industry & Commerce of Assam Bimal Bora and Minister of Transport and Excise of Assam Parimal Suklabaidya.
