Bhubaneswar: Amid efforts by the Congress to rejuvenate the organisation its debacle in the recent elections, senior leader and former bureaucrat Bijay Patnaik resigned from the party on Friday.
As per information, the former chief secretary, who had joined the grand old party last year, sent his resignation letter to the AICC through email.
Expressing unhappiness over the functioning of the party, Patnaik claimed that he was not allowed to work in the party.
After joining the party, Patnaik led the Campaign Committee of the Congress as its chairman. He had also initiated a number of measures to strengthen the party in the state.
However, he was subsequently removed from the Campaign Committee of the party ahead of the twin elections. Patnaik had also contested recent elections from Paralakhemundi Assembly constituency in Gajapati district but lost.
Patnaik said he decided to quit the Congress as he felt that there is no place and prestige for him in the party. “I think my services were not considered useful for the party,” he said, adding that he will not join any other political party but will continue to serve the people.
