Bhubaneswar: The 90th Foundation Day of Odisha Police was celebrated with grandeur across the state, with special programmes being held in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
The occasion was marked by ceremonial parades, awards distribution, and inspiring speeches by senior police officials, recognising the contributions of the force in maintaining law and order.
A grand function was organised at the Reserve Police Ground in Buxi Bazaar, Cuttack, where Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania attended as the chief guest. The event began with a ceremonial parade, during which the DGP took the salute and received the guard of honour.
Following the parade, he addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significant role of Odisha Police in ensuring public safety and upholding justice over the past 90 years.
“Police officials have always displayed exemplary services for which I extend my wishes to them. Police personnel are always on duty when people celebrate festivals like Holi and Diwali and others with family,“ said DGP YB Khurania.
According to Khurania, Odisha Police has registered tremendous success in curbing the Maoist menace. In 2024, several Maoists were killed, 8 were arrested and 24 others surrendered. In a major joint operation launched by Odisha Police, CRPF and Chhattisgarh in January, a top cadre and 17 other Maoists were gun downed. Special Operation Group (SOG) jawans from Odisha had played a key role in the operation, he added.
During the programme, several police personnel were honoured for their exceptional service and dedication. Awards were distributed to officers and staff for their bravery, commitment, and outstanding performance in various fields of law enforcement.
The event highlighted the achievements of Odisha Police and their continued efforts to modernize policing with advanced technology and community-friendly initiatives.
Similarly, in Bhubaneswar, the Reserve Police Parade Ground was the venue for another grand celebration. The event was graced by Police Commissioner S Devdatta Singh, who attended as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner praised the relentless efforts of the police force in combating crime, handling emergency situations, and ensuring the safety of citizens.
The Bhubaneswar event also featured an impressive parade, reflecting the discipline and dedication of the police force. Various officers and personnel were felicitated for their service, and discussions were held on modern policing strategies, community engagement, and improving law enforcement mechanisms.
Twin City Police Commissioner said, “The Commissionerate Police is committed to serving people with prompt services and proper justice. I congratulate the people of the twin cities and urge them to follow the advisory of the Commissionerate Police. I also appeal to people to cooperate with us in serving them in a better way.”
The 90th Foundation Day celebration was not just a moment of pride for the Odisha Police but also a reminder of their commitment to serving society with integrity, dedication, and courage. The events in both cities concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold justice, maintain peace, and adapt to evolving challenges in law enforcement.
