Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police has arrested a drug peddler and seized a huge quantity of brown sugar valued at more than Rs one crore during an operation in Keonjhar district.
On the basis of intelligence input, a raid was conducted by a team of STF, Bhubaneswar near Jodiaghati in Keonjhar on Monday evening against illegal dealing and possession of narcotic drugs.
The STF team apprehended one drug peddler, identified as Rajendra Kumar Majhi (46) of Baidyarajsahi of Keonjhar, STF said in a release on Tuesday.
During search, contraband brown sugar (heroin) weighing 01 Kg 080 gram (1080 gm) and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession.
The accused was arrested as he could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband materials.
In this connection STF PS Case No.32 dated 19.12.2023 U/s 21(c) of NDPS Act 1985 was registered. Investigation is on.
Special drive against narcotic drugs is continuing in the state. Since 2020, STF has seized more than 74 kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 gram cocaine and more than 116 quintals of ganja/marijuana, opium 3 kg 630 gram and arrested more than 184 drug dealers/peddlers.
STF also destroyed 62+ Kg of seized Brown sugar in last one year.
