Pirated NCERT books worth Rs.10 lakh seized during raid in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major success, police seized pirated and fake textbooks resembling the ones published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) during raids in Bhubaneswar.

The cost of the seized books is around Rs 10 lakh. Four persons have been detained for supplying the fake NCERT school books and they are being questioned, police said.

According to Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh, the seizure was made during raids conducted on book stores at Master Canteen, Unit-IX and Ravi Talkies areas of the city.

Sources said NCERT recently tipped-off the police on the sale of pirated and bogus textbooks. Police sources said the pirated books did not have original watermarks and also did not match other specifications of NCERT books.

No bookseller is allowed to sell any NCERT textbook beyond the actual price printed in it and people should avoid buying a re-stitched/re-bound book at an extra cost, an official said.
