Pregnant woman’s body recovered from river in Koraput, kanwariya drowns in Jajpur

Koraput: The body of a pregnant woman who was swept away with her 5-year-old daughter in Jhanjavati river in Narayanpatna here was found on Sunday morning. Her minor daughter is still missing, and efforts are on to trace her.

The woman has been identified as Moti Tadingi, wife of Rama Tadingi of Dakarighati village under Narayanapatna police limits. She was eight-months pregnant.

According to sources, the mother daughter duo was staying at Maa Gruha as the road connecting to Dakarighati village was under construction.

The mishap took place on Friday when they had gone near the river to attend nature’s call.

On being informed about the incident, ODRAF team along with fire personnel reached the spot and started search operation.

Kanwariya Drowns in Baitarani river

In another tragedy, a Kanwariya died after drowning in a swollen Baitarani river in Jajpur district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Prasant Samal of Purushottampur in Bhandaripokhari block of Bhadrak district. On the second Monday of the auspicious Shravan month, Samal was scheduled to offer prayers at Akhandalamani temple in Ardi.

He had come to the Ballavi ghat in Jajpur to collect holy water from the Baitarani river and was preparing to proceed towards Ardi, when the mishap took place.
