Respite from heatwave soon as Odisha braces for thunderstorm

Bhubaneswar: Odisha can expect some relief from the blistering heatwave with the India Meteorological Department predicting thunderstorm activity from Saturday (April 20).

Amid the orange and yellow warning of heatwave, the day temperature in the state, however, is likely to remain 40°C or above at most places and 3-5°C above normal in some districts during the next 2-3 days due to prevailing mainly northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation, according to the weather agency.

People have been advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm. By 2.30 pm on Friday, the mercury had soared past 40°C at 6 places in the state. Jharsuguda was the hottest place at 43.8°C, followed by Sambalpur (42.4°C), Keonjhar (42.2°C), Chandbali (42.2°C), Hirakud (42°C), Rourkela (41.8°C), and Bhubaneswar (41.4°C).
