New Delhi: The six-lane flyover on NH-16 near Hanspal, connecting Bhubaneswar with Cuttack, is expected to be completed by January next year.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari shared this information while responding to questions by BJD Rajya Sabha members, Niranjan Bishi and Sasmit Patra, on expected date of completion of this flyover, specific reasons for the delay and the measures taken to address them.
“The construction of the said flyover got delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic, delay in removal/relocation of houses/structures and poor performance of the EPC contractor. The contract was terminated in June 2024 due to non performance of the EPC contractor and balance work re-awarded. The work is expected to be completed by January, 2025,” he said in a written reply on December 11.
Construction of the flyover began in 2020 and it was supposed to be completed in two years. But several administrative hurdles led to the project getting delayed.
In August, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) partially opened the flyover, which will not only lessen the travel time between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack but also reduce accidents on the stretch.
