Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha arrested two drug peddlers and seized over 1 kg heroin from their possession near Bhubaneswar.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of STF personnel conducted an anti-narcotic drug raid near Uttara-Pipili on Friday evening and apprehended the two, identified as Lipun Pandey of Pipili in Puri district, and Sk Abbash of Masjidgali area in Khurda.
During search, the STF officials recovered contraband brown sugar (heroin) weighing 1.08 kg (1080 gm) and other incriminating materials from the accused persons.
The two accused persons will be forwarded to the Court of District & Sessions’-Cum-Special Judge, in Puri, the STF said in a release on Saturday.
A case in this connection has been registered against the two under sections 21(c)/29 of NDPS Act 1985 for illegal dealing/possession of narcotic drugs.
The special drive by the STF against narcotic drugs has been continuing in the state. Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 72 kg brown sugar/heroin, 202 gm cocaine, 116 quintal ganja, 750 gm opium and arrested more than 178 drug peddlers/dealers.
The STF has destroyed over 60 kg seized brown sugar in the last one year, the release added.
