Thunderstorm, rain to continue for 3 more days in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Rain coupled with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind is likely to continue for three more days in many parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.

Severe heatwave conditions, which had subsided in several areas of the state in the last few days due to thunderstorm activities, may return. Day temperature is likely to rise again after three days.

In a bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur at one or two places of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Balasore districts in next 24 hours. A yellow warning was issued for these districts during the period

On April 4-5, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhargarh, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal districts. The weather agency issued a yellow warning in these districts.

On April 5-6, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

No large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) is expected for next three days in the state. Thereafter, the mercury is likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius over the districts of Odisha. Temperature is very likely to be equal and above 40 degree Celsius at isolated packets of districts of Boudh and Balangir.
