Sundargarh: Five persons were killed and five others sustained critical injuries when the vehicle they were in crashed into a truck on the Kandadhuda-Toparia road under Hemgir Police limits in Sundargarh district early on Saturday.
As per reports, the mishap occurred when the van carrying a kirtan group struck the truck from behind. The ‘kirtan’ group had visited Chakkplai village in Chhattisgarh for a Diwali event and was returning to their home villages when the mishap occurred. One of them died on the spot, three others died at the Hemgir CHC. Another person died at Raigarh.
Those who died were residents of Kandagoda and Samarpinda villages in the district. The five injured persons are receiving treatment at Hemgir and Sundargarh DHH. Locals have obstructed the roadway, calling for compensation for the bereaved families.
