Kendrapada: A 28-year-old doctor was injured and his car badly damaged in an explosion after the vehicle ran over firecrackers spread on the road at a village in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Thursday.
The mishap took place when the doctor was driving through Khandiabandha village in Bharatpur area under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station and the car ran over firecrackers and gun powder laid out by locals to dry in the sun, sources said.
Following this, a severe explosion took place causing grievous injuries to the young doctor, identified as Sujit Samal. The car also suffered extensive damage in the mishap. He was reportedly proceeding towards Cuttack when the mishap took place.
The injured doctor was immediately taken to hospital in Kendrapada for treatment. His condition is stated to be serious. He was later reported to have been referred to Cuttack.
On being informed, a ream of police personnel rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
