Bhubaneswar: The two-year-old baby boy, who was allegedly kidnapped from the arms of his visually impaired mother near the iconic Ram Mandir in Bhubaneswar late Saturday night, was eventually rescued from Balasore on Tuesday. The abductor involved in the incident has also been arrested.
As per sources, Commissionerate Police traced the baby boy after checking the CCTV footages at various railway stations and collecting clues from various sources. The motive behind the abduction of the baby boy is yet to be ascertained. The abductor has been brought to Bhubaneswar.
As per police sources, the motive behind the abduction could only be ascertained after further investigation and questioning of the abductor.
The baby boy was allegedly kidnapped from the arms of his visually impaired mother near the iconic Ram Mandir on Saturday night. The shocking episode occurred at around 3 am, when the woman, who survives by seeking alms near the temple, was resting with her child near the Ram Mandir.
Earlier, the CCTV footage, which became a crucial piece of evidence, showed the abductor escorting the baby boy from near the well-known Ram Mandir area at around 2:56 am on Saturday night. Based on the clue from the CCTV footage, the police managed to reach the abductor in Balasore.
The boy’s mother, Jayanti Mallick, who is visually impaired, had reported the matter to the local police following the abduction of her child.
The Commissionerate Police formed special teams who conducted raids at various locations based on the CCTV footages at various railway stations. They eventually traced the abducted boy in Balasore and rescued him.
The abducted baby boy’s mother Jayanti Mallick was ecstatic after her child was rescued by the police. “I have a mixed response of joy and sorrow after my son was rescued. I had no hope that my son will be rescued. I had prayed Lord Ram and with His blessings, my son was rescued,” said Mallick.
“Police are yet to inform me when they will return my son . Proper steps should be taken so that that these kinds of incidents should not happen again. No child should be snatched from a visually-impaired mother. There should be proper security measures in place,” she added.
