Notorious drug peddler Jamshed shot in encounter, admitted to AIIMS

Bhubaneswar: Notorious narcotics peddler Sk Jamshed was injured in an encounter with the police near Jayadev Vatika at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar, late on Thursday. The operation was headed by Special Crime Unit officer of Commissionerate Police Anup Kanungo.

According to sources, the police team chased Jamshed as he was riding a motorcycle from Pokhariput to Khandagiri. He pulled out a pistol and fired at the policemen as they attempted to intercept him. Following which, police retaliated and shot him in the leg.

A police official said that they had been tracking his movements for the past several months. Brown sugar worth Rs 20 lakh and a Mauser pistol were seized from his possession. Jamshed has been admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and his condition is stated to be stable.

Sources further stated that several cases are registered against him at Lalbag, Baljanta and Badagada police stations. He was also earlier arrested on charges of smuggling narcotics.
