Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the soul of the capital city of Bhubaneswar, a one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy was allegedly kidnapped from the arms of his visually impaired mother near Ram Mandir late on Saturday night.
The shocking episode occurred at around 3 am when the woman, who survives by seeking alms near the temple, was resting with her child in her lap.
According to her complaint lodged at Kharavel Nagar police station on Sunday morning, an unidentified miscreant snatched the child and disappeared into the night. The grieving mother, helpless due to her disability, could do nothing but scream for help in the silence of the early morning.
Jayanti Mallick, “I have been staying near Ram Mandir for last 5 years. I have two kids. One person came and gave him juice and played with the child. Later, he took away with him. The incident occurred at around 2 am in the night.”
Mallick further said that later she brought the matter to the notice of locals and lodged a complaint with the police. “I do not know who has stolen by child. I urge police to search for my child,” she added.
Police have launched an urgent investigation into the incident. The mother has expressed deep fears that the child may have been abducted—an alarming and heinous motive that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Locals and social activists have gathered in support of the devastated mother, urging swift action and safe recovery of the child. As the search intensifies, hope remains that the little one will be found unharmed and returned to his mother’s embrace.
This incident casts a grim spotlight on the safety of children and the vulnerability of society’s most marginalized members—even in the heart of the capital.
