Temp to fall in Odisha with return of Nor’Wester amid low pressure

Bhubaneswar: Mercury soared to 41 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda by 2.30 pm on Monday amid 2-3 degree Celsius rise in day temperature forecast for Odisha. Sambalpur recorded 39.8 degree C, followed by Rourkela (39) and Hirakud (38.8).

A low-pressure area has formed over central parts of south Bay of Bengal. The system is likely to move northwestwards over southwest Bay of Bengal till April 8 and nearly northwards over westcentral Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

While there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 24 hours, the MeT office has predicted 2-3 degree C fall in the mercury levels across the state thereafter. The maximum temperature may touch 40 degree C or more in the isolated pockets districts of Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bhawanipatna, Balangir, Titlagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Paralakhemundi and Rourkela.

The weather agency has forecast light rain in Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts on April 7 and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar on April 8.

However, nowcast warning of light to moderate thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and light to Moderate rain with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been sounded for some parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur till 8 pm on April 7. People have advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

According to the midday bulletin, thunderstorm activity with gusty wind will continue in the state for three days from April 8. Thunderstorm/ lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occurin the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar on April 8. Light to moderate rain is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur on this day.

On April 9, yellow warning of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul and Dhenkanal districts. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Nuapada.

There is a forecast for light to moderate rain in the afternoon/evening hours at a few places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul and Dhenkanal. Light to moderate rain may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Nuapada.

On April 10, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely in the afternoon/evening hours at a few places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Light to moderate rain may occur in the afternoon/evening hours at a few places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Light to moderate rain is also likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

NOR’WESTER TO SUBSIDE

While there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on April 11. There is similar forecast for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on April 12 with little change thereafter.
