Thunderstorms, lightning predicted in Odisha districts for next 5 days

Bhubaneswar: With no significant synoptic system lying over the region, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind is very likely to occur at one or two places over several districts of Odisha during the next five days (i.e till April 17), India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre forecasted on Saturday. The IMD in Bhubaneswar issued a Yellow Warning in these districts for the next five days.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD said, “Maximum temperature has observed appreciable rise by about 2-4°C at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, appreciable fall by about 2-4°C at one or two places and no large change elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. Maximum temperatures were appreciably below normal by about 3-5°C at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, below normal by about 2-3°C at a few places over the districts of Interior Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

The highest maximum (day) temperature of 40.4°C was recorded yesterday at Bolangir and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 19.4°C was recorded at Jajpur in the plains of Odisha.

Weather forecast and warning in Odisha districts for next two days as follows:

Saturday (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 13.04.2025)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur in the afternoon and/or evening hours at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and at one or two over the districts of Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Angul, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be aware)- Thunderstorms with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon and/or evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.

Thunderstorms with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon and/or evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Puri, and Khurda.

Sunday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 13.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 14.04.2025)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur in the afternoon and/or evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be aware)- Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon and/or evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jagatsinghpur.

Temperature forecast: No major change is likely in the maximum (day) temperature during next three days and a fall by 2-3°C thereafter over the districts of Odisha.
