Bhubaneswar: Two notorious criminals, wanted in several cases, were injured in an encounter with the police in Badagada area of Bhubaneswar.
The two, identified as Sonu Yadav and Manish Yadav, were caught after being injured in a special operation launched by the Commissionerate Police late on Thursday.
Sources said the exchange of fire took place when the two attempted a robbery in Badagada area. While fleeing the scene on a bike, the criminals were confronted by the police near Bankual. The two reportedly opened fire at the police team, prompting the cops to retaliate. The criminals sustained injuries in the exchange of fire that ensued.
As per police sources, the two are involved in at least 15 robbery cases. Also involved in several chain snatching incidents in Bhubaneswar, they are stated to have connections in Bihar.
The two were initially taken to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment. Investigation is in progress to ascertain the network of the two criminals and identify their other associates.
